Girl Leadership Opportunities

Opportunities to enjoy positions of leadership can be found at school, on the job, in extracurricular activities, in religious groups, or in the community. Girl Scouting in particular offers several ways in which teens can serve as leaders. Both within the troop/group environment and at the Service Unit and council levels, girls have a wide array of formal and informal opportunities to take the lead on projects and committees. Listed below are three opportunities.

Program Aide (PA) Program

Interested in leadership, helping out at Girl Scout events, and being a role model? The Program Aide program will help girls in grades 7 through 12 become confident, effective leaders and will provide them the skills to work with younger Girl Scout troops and groups.

Program Aide Opportunities
In order for many events to succeed, Girl Scouts of Utah and Service Units need Program Aides. There are numerous opportunities for Program Aides to earn service hours, gain leadership experience, and help younger Girl Scouts at:

Leader-in-Training (LIT)

Leaders-in-Training work with a mentor (troop facilitator) in a Girl Scout Daisy, Brownie, or Junior troop. An LIT project takes five to eight months with time divided between course sessions and actual work with a troop or group. A girl can become an LIT after the completion of 9th grade and must complete the adult Girl Scouts Orientation and Volunteer Essentials and Troop Module trainings.

Service Unit Delegate

Become the voice of your Service Unit by representing adults and girls from your area as a Service Unit delegate or alternate delegate. Service Unit delegates and alternates are the communication link between the Board of Directors, Service Unit and troop volunteers, parents, and girls. Any registered Girl Scout age 14 and older may serve in this capacity once elected by members of her Service Unit. Girl representation is strongly encouraged.

Service Unit delegates, along with the Board of Directors, are accountable to the community for the organization's success in carrying out the mission of Girl Scouting. Delegates are elected by their Service Unit and serve two year terms.
