What to Expect at Resident Camp

Camp Guidelines

  • Follow the Girl Scout Promise and Law
  • Shoes with closed toes and heels must be worn at all times.
  • Walk in camp; no running.
  • Use the buddy system.
  • Stay with the group.
  • Follow the directions of the counselors.
  • No gum, weapons, alcohol, or contraband of any kind.
  • No cell phones.

Preparing for Camp

Please include your girl in the decision-making process. Make sure she has had success sleeping overnight away from home. Have her try a backyard campout, a sleepover at a friend's house, or camping with her troop. Expose your girl to experiences outdoors and away from home to build her confidence.

Camp Activities

Girls in all camp programs will:

  • Learn outdoor skills: knife safety, knots, fires, map and compass, first aid, trail etiquette, dressing for the weather, and outdoor cooking.
  • Play games.
  • Sing songs.
  • Make an arts and crafts project.
  • Participate in nature awareness activities.
  • Go on a day hike.
  • Put on a flag ceremony.
  • Go to the trading post (once).
  • Attend campfire programs.
  • Do a service project.

Additional all-camp activities take place throughout the week for girls to participate in with their unit. These activities vary depending on age levels.

Programs for 1st through 3rd graders will earn Try-Its. Every camper will earn the Ready, Set, Go Camping and Outdoor Adventure Try-Its. Programs for 3rd through 5th graders will earn badges. Every camper will earn the Finding Your Way, Camp Together, Outdoor Fun, First Aid and Hiker badges. Programs for 5th through 12th graders will earn the Camping interest project patch.
Girls help to keep the camp and their living areas clean by doing kapers (camp chores) daily. Girls also have daily "me time." "Me time" is up to an hour of free time to rest, read, or write.

Camp Staff

Our counselors are enthusiastic, talented, and caring adults who are carefully selected on the basis of experience, qualification, education, and desire to work with youth.

All counselors receive an intensive week of on-site training, including safety, program development, age-level characteristics, outdoor education, and working with youth who may become homesick. All counselors are certified in first aid and CPR. Our counselor-to-camper ratio is one-to-eight campers during the day and one-to-six campers at night.
