Internet Safety
Protect Yourself
The Internet is a very cool place that is worth exploring, but people and things are not always what they seem. Girl Scouts of Utah wants you to have a safe Internet experience. One of the best ways to do so is to take an online pledge.
My Online Safety Pledge
- I will not give out personal information, such as my address or telephone number, the work address/telephone number of my parents or guardian, or the name and location of my school without the permission of my parent/guardian.
- I will tell an adult right away if I come across any information that makes me feel uncomfortable.
- I will never agree to get together with someone I meet online without first checking with my parents or guardian. If my parent or guardian agrees to the meeting, I will be sure that it is in a public place and bring a parent/guardian along.
- I will never send a person my picture without first checking with my parent or guardian.
- I will not respond to any messages that are mean or in any way make me feel uncomfortable. It is not my fault if I get a message like that. If I do, I will tell my parent/guardian right away so that she/he can contact our online service.
- I will talk with my parent/guardian so that we can set up rules for going online. We will decide upon the time of day that I can be online, the length of time that I can be online, and appropriate sites for me to visit. I will not access other areas or break these rules.
LMK (Let Me Know) Internet Safety Site
GSUSA and Microsoft recently launched LMK (text speak for "Let Me Know"), a web site dedicated to Internet safety. This site is written for girls, by girls. LMK also offers a version of the site for parents. Check it out today!
