How to Join
Traditional Troop
Girl Scout troops are formed by caring adults
who dedicate their time to volunteer. A traditional troop
includes a minimum of five girls from one program level (such as Girl Scout
Brownies). The troop meets on a regular schedule,
usually weekly, under the guidance of two or more trained
troop facilitators. Girls and adults facilitators
determine dues, frequency of meetings, time of meetings,
and the meeting location.

Juliettes
Girls
do not have to belong to a traditional Girl Scout troop
to enjoy the full spectrum of the Girl Scout Program. Girls
ages 5–17 who want to be individual
members may become Girl Scout Juliettes.
Working individually with
the support of family and friends, Juliettes may participate
in a variety of Girl Scout activities, including
camp, the Cookie Program, council-sponsored events, and Service
Unit events. Juliettes may also earn recognitions as individuals. Juliettes
receive council-produced publications that enable them to choose
how and when they participate.

Group/Specialty Troop
Girls with common interests or needs may meet together as
a group. The group meets on a pre-arranged schedule, usually
six or eight times a year, under the guidance of a trained
leader. A group usually has one specific program focus for
all meetings.
Groups are identified as either an activity center or interest group. An activity center group includes girls who meet at
a specific building location and are involved in a wide
variety of short- or long-term Girl Scout activities. An interest group includes girls who participate in
specific, short-term interest areas, such as careers, technology,
or sports.
