Gift of Caring Program
“Gift of Caring” is a program developed for Girl Scouts as a Community Service Project in which each troop can choose to participate.
For various reasons, some customers do not want to buy cookies for themselves. With the “Gift of Caring Program,” they have a chance to give to others while supporting Girl Scouting at the same time.
Before the cookie sale, each troop decides which charitable organization in their community they would like to visit and deliver the cookies donated by their customers. The number of boxes sold counts towards troop proceeds as well as individual girl rewards.
Troops meeting the following criteria will receive “Gift of Caring” patches for each girl in their troop who sold cookies* and participated in the “Gift of Caring Program.”
- • Troop must contact an agency or organization and schedule a tour, or learn about the organization, prior to booth sales.
- • Girls promote the community service project during door-to-door** and booth sales.
- • Troop must sell a minimum of 48 boxes for their organization.
*The council obtains this information from our web-based cookie program. Troops do not need to submit this information.
** During door-to-door order taking: if a customer wants to donate cookies to the “Gift of Caring” program and these are the only cookies purchased, then payment may be taken at this time. This is the only time money is collected prior to delivery.
