Life Skills Matter!
Girl Scouts of Utah is pleased to partner with the Utah PTA and other community groups in support of the Utah State Office of Education's Life Skills initiative--curriculum that promotes the education of the whole child. |
GSU is the premier voice for girls in Utah and a leading expert on their growth and development. Having Girl Scout leaders in the classroom gives girls a unique chance to fulfill Life Skills program requirements, as well as to participate in activities for individual growth. GSU volunteers provide educators the assurance that girls are receiving knowledge that directly applies to Life Skills domains.
How does Girl Scouting fulfill Life Skills requirements?

GSU Programming Equivalency
Girl Scouting gives girls the chance to become independent thinkers and to gain courage, confidence, and character through problem-solving activities.
Social and Civil Responsibility
Local, national, and global services and action are core elements of the Girl Scout experience.
Girl Scout leaders provide resources that build each girl’s individual character. Physically and emotionally safe environments inspire girls during their personal journeys of discovery and leadership.
Girl Scout leaders encourage the exploration and understanding of the surrounding world, as well as appreciation for others’ endeavors.
The experimental nature of Girl Scout programs allows girls to engage in various forms of communication. It also gives girls the chance to discover and develop leadership skills.
Being an integral part of a group helps girls understand organization, the need for change, and the consequences of different choices and actions.
Girl Scouting encourages diversity and pluralism in both the organization and the community. Girls learn to understand and respect others while gaining skills that positively contribute to their roles as citizens.

"Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better
place. We know the value the seven life skills domains have in the life of all youth and we actively
support character development and education. It’s our privilege to work collectively with so many
organizations in Utah who care about our youth."
- Elaine Gause, CEO, Girl Scouts of Utah
"The State Office of Education’s mission is to provide leadership, vision, and advocacy, so that all
students have education opportunities to meet their potential and achieve competency. The Life
Skills document is intended to help multiple audiences integrate these seven identified skills,
competencies, and dispositions more effectively in the academic core and classroom instruction.
We are pleased to partner with so many community organizations who share the same ideals."
- Alan Griffiths, Utah State Office of Education
