Small Watercraft Safety Training includes a core lesson of basic water rescue knowledge and skills needed for self-rescue and to assist others and information on small craft accident prevention, trip planning, supervision and emergency preparation and response. After completion of the online portion ( 1 hours), participants will receive further in-person skills training ( 5 hours) as part of an environment-specific training session including in-water skills needed to respond to a small craft emergency.
This is a blended learning course; there are 2 - 30-minute GSUSA Small Craft Safety modules on gsLearn that must be completed prior to the in-person training that will take place outdoors - these modules on your gsLearn dashboard under "Not Started."
Be prepared to get in the water, swimwear is highly recommended. Participants need to understand that there is a probability of being part of a rescue scenario with an instructor who is also a trained lifeguard.
Includes equipment and life jacket rental.
Registration fee is non-refundable.
