Katelyn was awarded the 2026 GSUSA Scholarship for demonstrating extraordinary leadership, measurable and sustainable impact, and addressing an issue of national and/or global significance in her project, Worry Monsters.
A Girl Scout for 10 years, Katelyn earned her Girl Scout Silver Award in 2022 and her Girl Scout Bronze Award in 2018.
Katelyn addressed anxiety among students in grades K–6 by providing tools to support emotional regulation, communication, and stress management.
She created 25 handmade “worry monsters” with the help of her sisters and other volunteers to help children express and manage their worries. Katelyn partnered with Andrea Bruster, a school counselor in the Davis School District, who used the worry monsters with students over several months. The counselor then shared feedback on how the tools helped the children.
Through her project, Katelyn provided a creative, comforting resource to help young students navigate anxiety and build healthy coping skills.
